Annie Ngai

Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC)
Registered Social Worker (RSW)

Approaches

With extensive counselling experience across diverse settings, Annie supports individuals, couples, and families in navigating complex emotional and relational challenges. She specializes in individual and couple therapy, trauma, as well as parenting and co-parenting support.

Annie’s therapeutic approach is person-centred, collaborative, culturally responsive, and strength-based. She integrates Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Trauma-Informed Stabilization Treatment (TIST), Mindfulness-based interventions, and neuroscience-informed principles to help clients understand how their thoughts, feelings, and body responses are connected. Her work emphasizes safety, emotional regulation, and nervous system stabilization, supporting clients in building body awareness and insight to strengthen relationships, resilience, and meaningful change. Annie’s practice is grounded in an intersectional framework that recognizes the influence of culture, identity, power, and systemic factors on mental health and well-being.

In addition to her clinical practice, Annie has extensive experience developing educational materials for family life education and facilitating a wide range of programs and support groups that help individuals and families navigate transitions, stress, and change.

With her lived experience as an immigrant, Annie understands the challenges people face at different stages of life and in diverse personal and cultural contexts. She meets clients where they are, honoring their experiences, and creates a safe, respectful space where they feel seen, supported, and empowered.

Why I become a counsellor?

I am drawn to counselling by the beauty of truth, goodness, and authenticity that emerge through genuine human connection. At our core, we are relational beings, and in moments of deep connection, we nurture one another, find support, and are reminded of our capacity to grow, heal, and become the best versions of ourselves. It is through this journey that meaningful and enduring beauty is revealed.

Working with clients is profoundly enriching. I feel deeply honoured to be trusted and invited to witness people’s life journeys, and I hold great respect for the wisdom, resilience, and endurance each person brings. My clients teach me invaluable life lessons and shape my understanding of love, relationships, and the meaning of life.

I feel called to serve others using the gifts I have been given, guided by faith and a desire to share love and hope in the world. My work as a counsellor is rooted in a genuine wish to make a difference in people’s lives—to witness transformation and healing, and to walk alongside others as they find strength, clarity, and wholeness.

Outside of my work, I enjoy reading, gardening, cooking, playing racquet sports, and snuggling with my two cats. I feel deeply grateful for the love and support of my family and friends, as well as the spiritual inspiration that grounds and guides me.
